When it comes to all things related to health and fitness – ‘nutrition’ is the one facet that bamboozles pretty much everybody at some level.
It is the area that most people struggle with and the domain that causes the most dispute.
In my experience, it is best to focus on a more rounded approach to nutrition, and not show an affinity to any particular methodology.
I find some clients respond better to calorie tracking, whereas others don’t like the structure. Some prefer the more rigid approach of having a set meal plan, whereas others relish the more flexible approach.
Either way, it would be foolish to think that everybody’s issues can be solved simply by asking them to download a calorie tracking app.
I’ve personally seen fantastic results from putting a client on a ‘three square meals a day and a couple of healthy snacks’ plan.
This can work wonders if previously they have been skipping meals and then binging on snacks and takeaways.
For the best results, take a look at where you are right now (the present) – and make simple adjustments to improve things, it doesn’t have to be restrictive, it just needs to be better.
Quite often, when you try and overhaul your bad habits, the wheels come off quickly and you end up back at square one – whereas if you’d made subtle improvements over a period of weeks, and allowed yourself a chance to pick off little wins, the results start to come thick and fast.
Remember: improving your health and nutrition is a marathon, not a sprint!
